David & Nicole

A New York Love Story

A CHANCE ENCOUNTER TWICE DELIVERED!

Twice in one night the lives of two would be connected by chance.  The first was when Nicole went to a small bar named Pianos in the Lower East Side of New York with her friend Summer from college.  That same night David ventured to Pianos on a mission to meet new friends.  As he arrived Nicole was leaving but Dave convinced Nicole to stay.  The two barely spoke this first encounter as Nicole hung out with David’s friends and David and Summer made new friends around the bar.  As the night went on, Summer suggested that David take Nicole’s number and then they parted ways.

A few hours later, David left his friends at the bar and headed home.  Turning a corner David looked into a Creperie window and saw Nicole inside at a table surrounded by crepes.  Nicole smiled as she recognized David, and waved for him to come inside.  In that late night conversation surrounded by crepes, David and Nicole learned very quickly they had many of the same interests. David won over Nicole with his enthusiasm and passion for entrepreneurship. She had never met anyone like David before. They both decided to make plans to meet again soon, as Nicole was still only planning to be in New York for 3 days.

A LONG DISTANCE LOVE!

Just out of college, Nicole was busy applying for jobs back in Seattle so she didn’t plan to be in NYC for long. However, 8 days later Nicole was still in NYC and her and David were inseparable. Their first date was something out of a romantic comedy as their night was full of adventure, spontaneity, and iconic New York landscapes. They saw the sunset at Battery Park, watched a black and white movie in Bryant Park, and even met a boa constrictor named Moses in Time Square. Dave must have thought Nicole was special as he endured taking her to Time Square, the most touristy place in NYC!

Their dates continued throughout the week with catching a Yankee baseball game, visiting fancy rooftop cocktail bars (Nicole learned what bottle service meant), and exploring all that New York had to offer.  Nicole felt like she was living in a dream world as she learned all about NYC with David by her side. Nicole felt that what they had was very special and she hoped David felt the same way.

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge on August 8th, 2008 (08/08/08) David asked Nicole to be his girlfriend.  He felt that distance wasn’t a factor as he had never met a girl like Nicole.  That was to be the start of a bi-costal whirlwind romance.

A LIFE OF TRAVEL, FISHING, ADVENTURES, & LIVING IN A SMALL STUDIO!

After months of late night calls and weekend trips to see each other, Nicole was able to land a job in NYC. She moved with only a small duffle bag to the Big Apple to start her new adventure. David was doing his surgery rotation in Florida for medical school, so they continued long distance for another few months. They continued getting to know each other through long phone calls and frequent trips up and down the East Coast.

Once David finished his rotation a few months later, he suggested that he and Nicole get their own apartment. Nicole found a gorgeous luxury building and a cute studio that she furnished with a very fancy air mattress.  It took Nicole and Dave a few weeks to furnish their new apartment, but they were finally in the same city building memories together.

The past 8 years have included more small studios in NYC, a shared love for global travel, and many fishing trips. David and Nicole both fell for each other quickly and grew closer as they helped each other through many life changes and challenges. They knew after only a few months that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.

… AND A SURPRISE PROPOSAL!

David proposed in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 26th 2015.  With the beautiful blue streets of San Juan as a backdrop the pair joined a professional photographer along with David’s parents. Nicole had always wanted a photo shoot in Puerto Rico and asked to schedule one for her birthday trip. Unknown to Nicole, David had been planning this photo shoot for over a months.  Before the trip David had picked out a ring and asked permission from Nicole’s Dad and Mother to marry their daughter.  Over looking the cliffs of an old fort and the blue ocean, David went to one knee and asked Nicole to be his wife.
